Where To Invest in Times of Earthquake, Riots and Tsunami?

(Article Source: Jonathan Quek – Asia’s Youngest Wealth Coach)

We are living in a world where change is constant. The problem is the change has been rather extraordinary today.

It’s only 3 months this year and we have already witnessed:

1) Massive Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand

Manageable monetary damage and around 200 lives were lost

2) Tsunami in Northeastern Japan

The worst national disaster wiped out towns and villages on the coast with estimated loss of lives likely to exceed 10,000 people. Japan has been in a deflationary cycle for the past 15 years pledged rescue package of 15 Trilliion Yen to stabilize it’s financial system.

3) Riots around the World

The situation in Libya is still unresolved as President Muammar Gadaffi continues to defy international pressues to step down. Riots in Libya, the 8th largest oil supply in the world, pushes oil price to US$100 per barrel.
The biggest question most people have in mind right now is this…

Where to Put Your Money in such Times of Uncertainty?

1) Bonds?

Bonds are basically I.O.U issued by companies or governments to raise funds. With the current unresolved European Debt Crisis where the PIIGS are still facing trouble, the EU continue to debate about how to strengthen their bailout funds.

PIIGS basically means Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain.

U.S and UK are not much brighter as well… Both countries are still running on high budget deficits as a result of trying to rise their economies out of the 2008 financial crisis.

Final Verdict: UNATTRACTIVE!

2) Stocks?

World stocks tumbled over concerns from the Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami and as official grappled with a nuclear crisis. The U.S and European stocks too big hits over fears that what’s happening in Japan could derail as much anticipated global recovery. The big question is… What stocks should we invest in today’s market? What is in everyone’s mind is simple… What appears cheap today may be even cheaper tomorrow! As one fund manager puts it “If you shut down Japan, you have a global recession”. No country including U.S will be speared.

3) Gold & Silver

When Libya tension flared about 2 weeks ago, the price of Gold & Silver rallied as investors seek out the precious metal as a possible safe haven. As uncertainty over the global recovery looms larger with the massive losses in Japan, the shine of the yellow metal continues to be bright!

Gold – it is possible for gold to test $1500 as Japan losses gets tallied up, and the massive rebuilding starts to take place. The potential of a swift global recovery is looking slimmer day by day…

Silver – Silver hit a 31 year high last week on short term supply tightness and increased physical demand ($36.74 per oz). With the Gold Silver Ratio at 40, silver is likely to outperform gold in the short term as a hedge against increasing global uncertainty.

What I have learnt in the Financial Entrepreneur Bootcamp…..

I was given an opportunity to share my great entrepreneurial journey and it was great to share it with the young and dynamic participants.

Sharing in Action

I participated in all the activities in the bootcamp itself. One of the greatest games ever – the bankruptcy game. We were told to use our own intelligence to look for money in the mall, given a condition that we can’t tell anyone we were playing a game. By the end of the game, the group who earns the most would be the winner.

My Team mate (From Left)- Mei Fong, Angel, Lim

Myself and Lawrence

This is the second time I’m playing it, but this time I did whatever it takes to win the game; unlike I held back the first time. I have learnt to become a leader in the bankruptcy game. I learnt to identify each teammate’s strengths and weaknesses and how to segregate tasks accordingly. Our team applied the ultimate success strategies that we have learnt in the earlier session. I was blessed and lucky to have such corporative teammates, we set our goal for the day; we brainstorm for strategies to use and I analyse which is the best options; eventually make the decision for the team.  Last but not least, ACTION!!

Team work is very important among members. Without it, I don’t think we will be able to achieve the target that we set earlier. Congratulation team!!

In entrepreneurship, one must have an ultimate success strategy in order to be successful. One must set the S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) Goal, apply the best strategy and take the right action.

What I learnt from Ernie Chen …..

Who is Ernie Chen? What is so special about him? Why everyone wants to talk to him?

My answer (thought):

I don’t know who Ernie Chen is. Not my business to get to know him. Why should I talk to him like everyone else does?

Ernie Chen was an arrogant man to me when the first time I met him during squash session. Just don’t like the way he talks, too aggressive. Although I do not like him, I am still listen to his sharing every time we met in The Club and his interviews by Traxx fm.

By chance (Thanks to social media), I am able to invite Ernie to one of my company’s seminar. There is HOW the learning path begins.

1st lesson learned:

If you think you worked hard, work HARDER!

When you have the time to think you have worked hard, which mean you are not fully utilized your time yet. Therefore, work HARDER!

2nd lesson learned:

Be Focus on what you want to achieve in live NOT on how arrogant the person is to you!

Must be clear on what you want to achieve and leverage on the resources you have regardless of how irritated or arrogant the person is to you. No one is perfect in this world; learn to acknowledge other’s strength.

Fantastically, he knew that I don’t like him because of his arrogant. Although he knew that, he still did sharing with me; this is why I saluted him so much.
